Sources of Strength is an evidence based suicide prevention training that trains peer leaders to be on the lookout for friends who might be in danger. Two representatives from Sources of Strength trained 15 adult advisors who were joined by over 30 youth leaders from Beloit Memorial High School, Beloit Learning Academy, and Fresh Start.
Unlike many suicide prevention programs, Sources of Strength stays positive by emphasizing the importance of support systems and ways to get through tough times or help others who are struggling. Students spent time getting to know one another, discussing their own support systems, and brainstorming ways to help peers that may not have their own sources of strength. Youth2Youth 4 Change plans to incorporate some of the skills and activities we learned into our high school programs.
